Spring & Summer Activities for Your Dog

We feel summer coming on! With the improving temperatures and sunnier skies, spring is a great time to get outside with your dog. Taking your canine companion out for a walk is always nice, but there are a lot of other things you can do outside together to release some energy. Here are just a few ideas:

HIKING:

Taking your dog out on a hike is like a walk, but in a new place! However, this form of exercise can be more intense than your usual walks, so make sure your dog is strong and conditioned enough to handle it. To ensure fun and safety on your hike, make sure dogs are allowed on the trail, and bring along a first aid kid and plenty of water.

ROAD TRIP:

Most dogs enjoy a ride in the car. If you are taking a drive to visit a friend or family, bring your dog along! You can make a couple stops to enjoy some shopping and allow the dog to burn off some energy.

DOG PARKS:

Just like humans, dogs like to be social. Dog parks allow your pooch to mingle with fellow dogs and roam free in an enclosed area. This is also a great opportunity for you to meet other pet owners in your neighborhood. Make sure you always keep an eye on your dog, as sometimes playing with a larger dog can lead to an accident or injury.

FRISBEE:

Another activity dogs enjoy is playing frisbee. It’s a fun way for you and your dog to play together, and a great form of exercise for the both of you!

TRACKING:

Tracking is similar to hide-and-seek; find a good spot to hide a favorite toy or object for your dog to find. It is not only challenging, but can also be fun. For added incentive, hide a treat along with the toy!

VACATIONS:

Who says you can’t bring your dog with you on spring break? Depending on where you are going and where you are staying, a vacation can be a great adventure for the both of you. You can find dog-friendly hotels and lodging online, along with nearby attractions both of you can enjoy.
