Prepare for Warm Weather!

Now that spring is almost upon us, your dog is going to be itching to go outside! In Chicago, there are many places to bring your dog, including dog parks and other Dog Friendly Areas. However, when you are going to take your dog outside, it is important that they have their Chicago Dog Friendly Area tag, which only cost $5.00. These tags verify that your dog has received their vaccinations and has had a recent negative fecal test; without one, you are subject to a $500.00 fine.

Enjoy the Outdoors

Though Chicago is a big city, there are plenty of fun places to bring your dog, from patios to dog beaches. It is important that your dog is able to get outside and run around, as a dog without exercise is never a good thing. Most dogs need to socialize with other dogs; if you only have one, a dog park or beach is a great way to ensure that your dog gets the socialization they need. While you are outside with your pet, you want to be sure that not only are they safe from infection, but that other dogs are as well!

Vaccinations in Chicago

In order to get a Dog Friendly Area tag, your dog needs to have their vaccinations up-to-date and have a recent negative fecal test. With vaccinations, you are ensuring that not only is your dog safe, but they will not get other dogs sick as well. When you go to a dog park or beach, you want to know that your dog will be safe; with DFA tags, you will know whom your dog can play with.

At Metro Vet, we can issue a DFA permit and tag with the following:

  1. A current dog license issued by the City of Chicago OR proof of a current rabies vaccination.
  2. Examination within the past year for any communicable diseases including an examination of a stool specimen for internal parasites.
  3. Current vaccination or titer if possible for Distemper, Hepatitis, Para-influenza, Parvovirus, and Bordatella (kennel cough) unless an exemption to this requirement has been granted by the Administrator upon the written recommendation from the Owner’s veterinarian.

These rules and regulations will be enforced by the Cook County Department of Animal and Rabies Control, and will issue tickets when necessary.
