Cancer Care and Animal Oncology
Helping Chicago Pets Win the Battle
Advances in medicine and nutrition have allowed our pets to live longer and healthier lives. Our beloved pets now experience different issues that threaten their overall health than previous generations of pets. At MetroVet, we have the right equipment and experience to detect and treat many of these conditions, including various types of pet cancer.
Know the Facts
Approximately half of adult dogs aged 10 or older will be diagnosed with cancer at some point in their lives. Cats have a lower risk, but feline cancers are often more aggressive.
Diagnosing and Treating Pets
If your beloved pet is diagnosed with a form of cancer, we work hard to give you peace of mind and to help determine the right course of action.
Depending on the type of the cancer, where it is located, and its degree of progression, we may recommend chemotherapy, radiation oncology, or veterinary surgery. Our experienced veterinarians are often able to administer these treatments on-site. This can help make your pet more comfortable because they are being treated by the staff they already know in a familiar environment. We also work with a network of board-certified oncologists who can step in for specialized care and consultations when needed.
When we recommend chemotherapy, we will work hard to make sure your pet is comfortable. Fortunately, pets that undergo chemotherapy often experience milder side effects than humans do. Many pets will mainly experience diarrhea and vomiting. While undergoing this treatment, we will offer medications to treat the symptoms. These prescriptions can be filled in our on-site pet pharmacy.
If your pet is diagnosed with cancer, MetroVet is here for every step, from diagnosis to treatment to remission.
