First Aid Kit Checklist for Your Pet

You have a first aid kit in your home for yourself, so why wouldn’t you have one for your furry family member? In the event of an emergency, you want to make sure you are prepared to care for your pet’s needs. Not sure what to put into the first aid kit? We’re here to help! Put the following items in a waterproof container that you can open and close quickly and easily.

  • Contact information for your family veterinarian, an emergency veterinarian and any others you might find necessary.
  • Gloves to protect you in the event you need to bandage up a wound.
  • Gauze pads and rolls for cleaning injuries and to wrap around wounds.
  • Hydrogen peroxide to clean a wound.
  • Alcohol pads to sanitize scissors, tweezers or other tools you may have to use.
  • Scissors to cut bandages and hair if needed.
  • Tweezers to remove objects from skin, paws or hair.
  • Eyedropper to apply liquid medication.
  • Cold pack to alleviate pain and swelling.
  • Soft muzzle to prevent your pet from chewing the injured area.
  • Blanket or towel to wrap around your pet to carry them or keep them warm.
  • Rags to use as a tourniquet in the event of a severe injury.

We hope you will never have to use the items on your list, but if an accident occurs, it is best to be ready; it will minimize the extent of the injury and keep your pet as comfortable as possible.
