How Your Kids Can Benefit from a Pet

Have your kids been begging you for a new pet? While they likely focus on the fun aspects of pet ownership and the fact that animals are cute, there are health benefits and other great lessons that can be gained by having a pet in the home.

So before you say “no,” consider the following:

  1. Kids who grow up in a household with pets are less likely to develop asthma and allergies.
  2. Playing with dogs will get your kids out of the house, is good exercise for kids and may help to lower blood pressure.
  3. Kids who are learning to read may be less self-conscious reading aloud to their pet, allowing them to learn faster.
  4. Taking care of a pet teaches kids compassion and responsibility.
  5. Children with pets show improved impulse control, social skills and self-esteem.
  6. Pets can help the whole family (parents, siblings, etc.) bond.
  7. It has been shown that snuggling up with a pet reduces stress, anxiety and loneliness.

The unconditional love we get from our pets is unmatched. Your kids and the entire family can benefit from having a furry friend in the home!
