What Pets Can Teach Us

Having a pet brings a lot of joy and happiness to many. Knowing that you have an animal as a part of your family to nurture and care for can be a wonderful experience. In addition to being a playmate and snuggle buddy, pets bring a number of advantages to their owners.

Responsibility and Time Management. It is a tremendous commitment to own an animal. Pets, like humans, require food, shelter and attention, and as an owner you are in charge of his or her life. You must provide them with the love and care they need, which can take time away from other events of the day. You must make room in your schedule for your furry (or scaly, or feathery!) friend, which requires organization.

Emotional Connection. Growing up with a pet or raising it will create a bond between owner and animal. As part of the family, your pet understands that you take care of and love him or her, making the feeling mutual. Pets create lifelong memories, and you will be a more nurturing and empathetic person because of it.

Health Benefits. It has been proven that pet owners are generally more healthy; playing and keeping pets active will make you more active too! The comfort of an animal may also lower stress and anxiety, preventing illnesses caused by these conditions. Pets also keep their owners more mentally healthy, as they feel that they have someone to rely on to keep them company and keep them safe.
